The NFDA has supported the automotive industry throughout the pandemic by providing up-to-date and timely guidance on how car dealerships should operate under all different levels of restrictions and full-scale national lockdowns.
Under the current lockdown restrictions, click and collect and home delivery services are still permitted. This allows for some motor trade business to continue, despite the forced closure of vehicle showrooms.

Dealers do not appear to be banned from taking vehicles for part exchange. As long as the dealer is taking necessary precautions with PPE and social distancing measures, part exchange is still permitted within the national lockdown restrictions. It is up to the dealer to ensure that sufficient measures and PPE are in place for those who need to work on-site. The guidance states that all employees should be working from home, unless necessary. Financial penalties for failing to comply within the laws and restrictions can be up to 10% of the group turnover. Automotive Management has said that "Dealers ended 2020 with stronger new car demand than 2019", which suggests that with the continuation of online sales for dealerships, the industry will come out the other end of this lockdown without too much damage.
